Unheard Corridors

Unheard Corridors is an immersive sound art exhibition and online listening series celebrating the creative voices of sound tinkerers.

From field recordings and soundscapes to experimental noise, meditative sound, and whakatangi, Unheard Corridors champions sound exploration and invites audiences to experience sound as art. The exhibition brings together emerging and established artists, creating a space where experimental sound works can be heard, shared, and celebrated.

We are currently seeking submissions for the event (October 1-3) and welcome work from sound artists of any persuasion — musicians and taonga pūoro practitioners, field recordists, students and sonic wizards alike. Selected works will be curated into a series of immersive listening sessions held in a comfortable, welcoming environment, encouraging audiences to slow down and listen deeply.

Following the exhibition, the curated recordings will become part of a free online listening series, allowing the experience to continue beyond the event and making these unique works accessible to audiences everywhere.

Developed in partnership with NOise VACANCY, Unheard Corridors shines a light on creative practices that often go unnoticed, strengthening connections within the sonic arts community in Te Tairāwhiti while opening new ways for an audience to experience, appreciate, and engage with sound.
