Unheard Corridors

Unheard Corridors is an immersive sound art exhibition and online listening series celebrating the creativity of sound tinkerers.

Field recordings, soundscapes, experimental noise, circuit bending, meditative sound, whakatangi, tape-loop compositions, sound collage and radio/transmission art — these are just some of the approaches used to create sound art. Unheard Corridors champions sound exploration and invites audiences to experience sound as art. The exhibition brings together emerging and established artists, creating a space where sound works can be heard, shared and celebrated.

We are currently seeking submissions for the event (October 1—3) and welcome work from sound artists of any persuasion — musicians, taonga pūoro practitioners, field recordists, students, dabblers and sonic wizards alike. Selected works will be curated and presented as a series of immersive listening sessions held in a comfortable, welcoming environment, encouraging audiences to slow down and listen deeply.

Following the exhibition, the curated recordings will become part of a free online listening series, allowing the experience to continue beyond the event and making these unique works accessible to audiences everywhere.

Developed in partnership with NOise VACANCY, Unheard Corridors shines a light on creative audio practices that often go unnoticed, strengthening connections within the sonic arts community in Te Tairāwhiti while opening new ways for an audience to experience, appreciate and engage with sound.
